Kiev Tumbler

Origin: Russia. Bred in the Ukrain since the 1870's and named for the city of Kiev.
The breed is a relative of the Riga Tumbler and the Voronesh White Breast and
is considered part of the Kosin group of Russian breeds.

General Impression: Medium sized pigeon, cobby looking because of the wide and
prominent breast. Unique appearence because of the markings and the peak crest
which is unusual among East European Tumbler races.

Head: Narrow, rounded, but elongated head with a high set, blunt ending peak crest.

Eyes: Bull. Cere narrow and pale.

Beak: Of medium length. Not too strong. Upper mandible colored, lower mandible
light.

Neck: Of medium length. Looking stronger than it is due to the crest.

Breast: Wide. A bit prominent.

Back: Slightly sloping. Tapering towards the tail.

Tail: Not too wide. Well closed.

Wings: Carried on the tail. Covering the back.

Legs: Short. Foot feathering of medium length with hock feathers.

Plumage: Smooth, tightly fitting.

Colors: Black and Blue Barred.

Color and Markings: Colors clear and even. Black, intense. Dark hue or Blue. Head,
crest, neck, upper part of the breast, lower back and front part of the muffs are white.
The rest of the plumage, including a forehead spot is colored. A bit of white in the vent
fluff is tolerated.

Severe Faults: Too narrow or long of body. Long legs. Insufficient markings. Insufficient crest. Very poor muffs. Wrong color of the beak.
