Trans. from German by Hans Windgassen
Origin: In the second half of the preceeding century, Balasa Gyorgy,
the Arad Tumbler breeder, created it by crossing Szegedin Highfliers, Polish
Ice Tumblers and Danzig Highfliers. The result were the "Balasa Mealies"
which increased in number around the turn of the century in the towns of
Banat and Siebenburg. Several lines
were bred, according to taste. They are a highflying endurance pigeon.
General Impression: Very lively pigeons of a fine body structure. A slender body type. Of a delicate and graceful appearence.
Head: Elongated head, a somewhat diagonal frontal. The top of the head is slightly domed, with a shell crest.
Beak: The beak is 18-20 mm long. The color depending upon the color of the plumage.
Eyes: Bluish shimmering pearl eyes. Double ceres which are slightly fleshy.
Neck: Long. Rather thin and slightly bending.
Chest: Broad and rounded. The rump is smaller and shorter than in a field pigeon and narrows toward the tail.
Wings: Long and strong, almost covering the rump and resting on the tail.
Feet: Short, clean. Toe nails the color of the beak.
Color Variations: Blue Barred, Mealy Barred, Silver Barred and Yellow Barred.
Faults: A course body. Short, thick neck. Long feet. A shellcrest
which is too large.
